THE CREED OF PHI BETA FRATERNITY

We, the members of Phi Beta National Professional Fraternity for the Creative and Performing Arts, express reverence and love for these, the beautiful teachings of our fraternity. Our belief is that they will carry us to the final attainment of a life well lived and a goal honorably achieved.

To promote the best in the creative and performing arts. We believe that it is given to each of us to be creative. All talents we possess have been given us that we may develop and use them for the preservation of the highest artistic standards.

To live a life of service. There is great joy from working zealously at a genuinely worthwhile task. What we put into life - just that much is returned to us, and no more.

To seek and develop the highest type of humanity. Herein we strive to look for the outward qualities which are the reflection of inner beauty, to keep constantly before us the attributes of love and sincerity, and to hold fast to Truth and the beautiful things of Life.

OUR PHI-LANTHROPIES

PHI BETA FRATERNITY NATIONAL PHILANTHROPY:
THE PHI BETA COTTAGE AT THE MACDOWELL COLONY
The Phi Beta Studio for Creative Artists is located at The MacDowell Colony
in Peterborough, New Hampshire. Founded by Edward MacDowell in 1907, The MacDowell Colony's mission is to nurture the arts by offering creative individuals of the highest talent an inspiring environment in which they can produce enduring works of the imagination. T
he sole criterion for acceptance to The MacDowell Colony is artistic excellence. MacDowell defines excellence in a pluralistic and inclusive way, encouraging applications from artists representing the widest possible range of perspectives and demographics.

Completed in 1931, the Phi Beta Cottage at The MacDowell Colony has housed more than 50 composers, playwrights, poets, and writers during their stay at this famous art colony. The Fraternity maintains the studio, but its use is directed by the Admissions Committee of the Edward MacDowell Association without Phi Beta intervention. The Phi Beta Cottage received renovations in 2010. Phi Beta further aids Colony objectives through contributions directed toward the MacDowell Fellowships.
BETA IOTA CHAPTER PHILANTHROPIES:
EAST CLEVELAND THEATER
The East Cleveland Theater, located at 14108 Euclid Avenue, was founded in 1968 by East Clevelanders Chris and Gene Pace. Dedicated to uniting the races on a common stage, the East Cleveland Theater has become a national leader in non-traditional color-blind casting and is a past recipient of the Ohio Governor's Award for the Arts.

In addition to producing four to five productions each season in its 200-seat Main Theater and 100-seat Gallery Theater, ECT also offers Saturday classes for youth and adults in various areas including playwriting, dance, acting and multiple musical instruments.

AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY
The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based, voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy, and service.

Beta Iota chapter of Phi Beta Fraternity supports the American Cancer Society through annual participation in Relay For Life, an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship, remember those we have lost to cancer, and raise money for research and programs of your American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps. Each team is encouraged to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. In 2012 Beta Iota chapter's team, Phi Beta  raised a total of $555 for the American Cancer Society through the fundraising efforts of our Relay team, Phi Beta Fraternity Cleveland State.
